Mums Coffee Corner

Why Mums Stay Up Late (Even When We’re Completely Wrecked)

It’s late.
The house is finally quiet.
You’re lying on the couch like a sloth in activewear, scrolling your phone with one eye open, pretending you're going to “just watch one more episode”.

You’re exhausted—but you’re awake.
And honestly, you’re not even surprised.

There’s something about those late-night hours that just hit different for us mums.
Maybe it all started during pregnancy, when bub was tap dancing on our bladder and we were up every five minutes for a midnight loo run. Sleep hasn’t really been the same since, has it?

Or maybe it’s those newborn days—stumbling around in the dark, making a bottle on autopilot, half-asleep, no caffeine in sight. Your hands know the drill better than your brain does. The lights stay off, your partner snores away, and you? You're the night shift MVP.

So maybe now, staying up late feels… familiar. Peaceful, even.

Because during the day, our time is swallowed whole by sticky fingers, snack requests, and back-to-back Bluey marathons. By 8:30pm, we crave a moment where no one is touching us, asking us anything, or spilling something on us.

Why do mums stay up late

It’s not even about “doing something productive.”
Sometimes it’s just about being. Sitting in the quiet, binge-watching TV you can’t remember the next day, reading a single paragraph of a book before passing out with your mouth open, or scrolling through online shops and never buying a thing.

And let’s be honest—we could get up early instead… but have you met mornings with kids? You can keep your sunrise. We’ll take our me-time at midnight, thanks.

Sure, we’ll regret it in the morning when someone yells “MUM!” at 5:56am.
But in the moment? It’s worth it.

Because in a world where our days are ruled by everyone else’s needs, the night is ours.
No one asking for snacks.
No one climbing on you.
No one needing you to solve a crisis involving glitter glue and a missing shoe.

Just you, your snacks, and your sacred silence.

So if you're sitting there right now, phone in hand, snacks in lap, pretending you’re going to bed “soon”…
Just know: you're not alone. You're part of a very tired, very proud sisterhood of late-night mums.

We see you.
We are you.
And we’ll all be yawning together by 10am tomorrow.

But hey—at least we got a moment to ourselves.

Need the perfect touch to your sacred space?
We’re obsessed with our “Mum’s Coffee Corner” sign—a little nod to the late-night warriors who fuel their mornings with love (and a lot of caffeine). ☕
